So here we are, the end of 2016 with 2017 nearly upon us! 2016 has been a big year for us personally as we spent the first half of the year in what felt like the world’s longest house chain. Thankfully everything finally completed in early May, and since then we’ve really felt like we have a real home. We have some exciting house projects and DIYs to share in early 2017 but until then read on over for our 2016 review.
There were quite a few house moving related posts in 2016, but the first DIY of the year was our makeover of some rather retro pouffes. You can see the glorious before and after shots here.
We then had a brief moment of radio silence, before sharing the first DIY in our new home. This was in the form of much needed storage for our hallway, which we revamped fairly cheaply using new handles and marble effect paper. All of the details of our Ikea Bissa Hack are here.
Next up is probably one of my favourite DIY’s to date. I’ve loved the look of Juju hats for a long time, but the cost always stopped me from buying one. In June we finally took the plunge and decided to make our own, which still hangs pride of place above our bed. If you want to make one yourself (it really is super easy) then the full details are here.
Our first room reveal of the new home was next up (more of these to come in 2017!) and was quite a dramatic transformation. The room needed some character, so we used a dark colour for the first time and Simon also built a chimney breast. You can check out the full post here to see what else we added.
And then our final DIY of the year (although there were a lot of Christmas posts after that point) was our tutorial on how to recover a ottoman. This was especially nice to do as the ottoman was something we purchased for our first home, passed on to other family members and then found it’s way back to us. If you’re toying with the idea of recovering a piece of furniture then do check the tutorial out – it really is easy to do!
And that’s it, some of our high points from 2016. It’s been a great year for us, and I’m looking forward to seeing what 2017 holds for us and our home!
