After seeing this post on DIY Habits I was inspired to create some glamorous frames of my own. I’ve used a slightly different approach for mine, find the tutorial after the jump.
This is quite a easy DIY to do but you will need some supplies to get started. Everything I used bar the spray paint is shown in the image below – feel free to mix it up with different coloured frames and paint. I’m dying to create a silver and white combo!
1. To begin with I removed the plastic from inside the frame, grabbed my tape measure and made pencil marks 3 inches from every corner of the frame.
2. Once I had my marks (8 in total) I got a little crazy with the masking tape and masked up the bits I DIDN’T want to paint gold.
I stuck my masking straight onto the inside of the frame as it’s covered by the photo, made it much easier than having to mask off the whole frame!
3. Once my frame was masked up, and the masking tape pushed firmly against the inside of the frame off into the garden we went. Here’s where Simon stepped in and coated the entire frame with some gold spray paint (are we the only couple that have an illogical amount of spray paint in their garage?).
First coat… and second:
We gave the frame 2 coats, but it was super hot outside so it only took 20 minutes to dry.
4. And then the fun bit, pulling off the masking tape!
Then all you have to do is decide what image to pop in your frame and mount it on the wall. I repeated this process four times to create a little grouping and here’s how they look together:
Do you see that wall on the left hand side? That, my friends, is going to have a bit of a makeover this weekend. With a giant stencil and some gold spray paint (I love the stuff). Fingers crossed it turns out well!
