As promised in my last post, today I’m sharing our newly finished girl nursery! This is our first baby, and I just couldn’t wait to find out what we were having earlier this year (props to anybody that manages to wait the whole 9 months).
My original plan was to keep things fairly neutral and Scandinavian (inspired heavily by some of the images I shared in the last post) but once I’d found out she was a little girl the pink started to creep in! I think we’ve balanced it out quite nicely with the white, grey and wood accents though.
The room itself is quite small, as the third bedroom and my previous “office”. I say “office” as we never really did anything with the room – it’s almost like we were subconsciously waiting! Ideally we would have had a wardrobe in here as well, but there just isn’t the space. Our compromise was to make sure that we had some shelves for storage space, and somewhere to hang some of the more adorable outfits! This is actually a hat rack from Ikea, with the black hardware sprayed white, but it works really well in the space.
On the other side of the room we have a picture rail, which is definitely more for decoration than for anything practical, but it does provide a perfect focal point above the cot! The stars are a B&Q purchase from a few years ago, the shoes are a gift from John Lewis (how adorable), we found the bunting in Homesense and the print was purchased from an interiors shop in Southwold last year.
The wallpaper is Confetti Rose from Ferm Living and they do it in a couple of different colourways. The specks of gold are really subtle and it’s stunning in person!
Although the nursery is small we’ve managed to create a little space in the corner for a reading nook. I expect to start off with we’ll be spending a lot of time sitting here completely exhausted, but my longer term goal is to be able to sit here and read together. Reading was a massive part of my childhood, and she’s already been gifted some great books to get her started! At the moment they’re being propped up by this beautiful toy from The White Company.
The grey chair is from Dunelm (we got it in a sale event for £100) and the Curtains and Lights are both from Homesense. To finish off this corner we also purchased a custom pompom basket from Mila Home Decor, who I stumbled across on Instagram, to store toys and blankets in.
We really struggled to find nursery furniture that we liked as a lot seemed very fussy for such a small room. In the end we decided on the Lulworth range from Mothercare. I’m not sure if they’ve stopped selling this, but for now it doesn’t appear on their website. They also did it in grey with wood, which looked great but was too dark for this room. Above the cot is a dream catcher that my mum made – isn’t it beautiful? Hopefully it’ll ward off bad nights sleep for us all… wishful thinking right?
And finally, mainly because I think I need to remind myself how tidy this room once was, I couldn’t resist sharing a snap of her organised drawers. We went with standard Ikea organisers, but have popped age organisers in each so we know what pile is for what age. There’s something very pleasing about this drawer at the moment – let’s see what it looks like in a month or so, once she’s actually here!
