Hallway Reveal

I believe that the first impression you get of a house stays with you. When we moved in our hallway was fine, but nothing special and it didn’t represent us or the rest of our home. If you follow us over on Instagram you’ll have seen a few hallway snaps over the past couple of months as we’ve been tweaking the space. And today, we finally get to share our hallway reveal!

The first thing we did in the hallway was add some storage so that you weren’t greeted by a pile of shoes. We used an Ikea storage unit and gave it a few tweaks – you can see all the details here.

We then repainted the banisters and spindles grey. Originally we were going to leave some parts white, but we decided grey made more of a statement. That, and I’m obsessed with grey… we should rename the blog “50 shades of grey – the home edition”!

A few bargain purchases, in the form of this GIANT mirror and a black and white rug, were added to make the space feel more welcoming. I then decided that I was bored of looking at an off white door, and randomly decided to paint the back of it one Saturday.

We then moved upstairs, with the addition of our black and white wall gallery (see how it’s grown from the original post here). I suspect this will grow in time, as I’d love either a giant sign or light above the top, but for now it’s still fairly large!

And finally we had to change the lights. We’d replaced these once already with an eBay bargain, but turns out the light bulbs were expensive and not a long term option.

We really struggled to find a light that would fit in the space, as all of the ones I liked were huge and wouldn’t fit. So we decided to make our own using a cage lampshade from Next (available here) and used a black and chrome flex from Homebase. We also found these incredible bulbs, which I’ve never seen before, and they finished the whole thing off perfectly!

I’m really, really pleased with how this has come together. The entrance to our home feels so much more welcoming now, and much more “us”. What do you think of our hallway reveal? Any suggestions for a long piece of artwork for our gallery?
