Ikea Kassett Hack

Ikea Kassett Hack

To ease into the working week we’re sharing a very easy Ikea Kassett Hack today. This is incredibly straightforward, and it really does add something unique to some very cheap storage. Also, it’s nearly time for spring cleaning, and who doesn’t love something to make organisation more stylish?

For those of you that don’t frequent Ikea quite as much as we do you can pick up the Kassett storage boxes for £2.15 for a pair. The boxes are pretty stylish on their own, with metal finishings and modern pulls which I absolutely love. Originally we didn’t intend to paint the boxes, but they looked a little dull on the bookcases.

We had some grey paint we’d already purchased for another project (yet to come to light) so a load of masking tape and a couple of coats later the boxes looked like this:

The whole project was super thrifty – with the only cost being for the boxes! I’ll share how they look on the rest of the shelf once we’ve finished improving the shelves themselves.

Update 2018: I don’t think they make these anymore! But there are lots of other options you could use – all the different options can be viewed here.

Such a simple change yet it has a huge impact. I’ll have to do the same with these boxes.

Thanks Stephanie, we’re really pleased with how it turned out.

I was just looking at baskets yesterday – I want to hold gym equipment in my family room. Something pretty like above, yet sturdy. Any ideas?

These are only cardboard so don’t think they’d be ideal for gym equipment – we’ve only got DVDs in ours. Ikea do a LOT of different versions though so I’d definitely check them out as a starting point!

Your bookshelf is styled so perfectly with the addition of the grey covers of course!

Aww thanks Trisha! It’s looking a little different now, as I’m hoping to show later this week 🙂
