We’ve been sharing little updates to this room over the past few months, but since then we’ve made some slightly bigger (and bluer!) changes to make the room feel more personal and homely. Previously we had a very neutral colour palette with dark furniture. Whilst it did give the room a calm feeling it wasn’t a very visually interesting space! As our living room is the first room you come into off of the hallway we wanted it have more of a lasting impression. Read on and let us know what you think of our living room reveal!
We’d decided to inject a bit of colour (namely teal) into the room. We began by removing our old coffee table and up-cycling a cheap find, added a few teal cushions and some coloured lanterns from cable and cotton to our bell jar. This had an immediate but small impact so we decided to brighten up the walls as well! We removed the fireplace from this room when we first moved in so thought we could use colour instead create a focal point for the room.
We painted a large stripe on the wall (using this amazing DIY tip) and mounted the TV on the wall – this wall is external, so there may be more on how we accomplished that another day! The cupboard below the TV now acts as a mantle/display area and I can’t wait to create a new display area here – maybe a collection of candlesticks. Who needs a fireplace? I think we’re done with teal for now, but I love the impact it’s had on the room.
What do you think? We’d love any mantel inspiration you have to share (I’ve mixed things up a little at the moment, there is a big row of candles underneath the TV).
